WEST VIRGINIA MARKERS

Plain square West Virginia marker is just too bland and unimaginative. I propose using a new shield featuring the state name at the bottom and the silhouette of the state at the top of the shield. The sign colors match the state's official colors. Route numbering and borders of the sign would be West Virginia blue (same as the state flag), with a white background. The silhouette would be recessed into a round cut out area at the top of the shield. This silhouette would be Old Gold (the state's other official color) with a blue edge. The state name would be spelled out in all caps at the bottom of the sign. This shield would promote a brand identity and become an iconic fixture alongside West Virginia roads.

Additionally the Round county marker would be replaced as well with a rounded trapezoid marker with the word "county" at the top. This sign would also be in West Virginia blue and white as shown below. Cutout versions of this shield would be used for guide signs. These signs are designed to be instantly recognizable and are intended to become iconic to the state much like the new markers in South Carolina and Oklahoma, as well as the iconic California miners spade shield.
