The Southeaster states would see a number of interstate improvements. The map below shows these various improvements. Solid Blue Lines indicate new free and purple indicates toll interstate routes. Dotted lines show additional Proposed routes or alternative routes. Red and Green (toll) lines show existing Interstate highways. Click on a shaded region below to view more detailed information about interstate ideas for that area
Ultimate Interstate 14 also known as the Central Texas Corridor and the 14th Amendment highway is a proposed interstate corridor traversing the mid-south that would travel across the central portion of the states of Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Originating to the south or west of San Angelo, TX (depending upon alignment) and ending near North Augusta, SC.

Part of I-26 from Asheville NC northward is not currently up to interstate standards. Plans are underway to complete construction and reconfiguration of the corridor to interstate standards to bring the highway into compliance so that the route can be officially designated as an interstate.

Ultimate Interstate 69 is a multi-state expansion of the I-69 corridor being constructed from Indiana to Texas and the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Portions of the I-69 corridor have been constructed but many sections are still remaining to be funded and it may be at least a decade or more before the entire I-69 corridor is completed.

Ultimate Interstate 73 and Ultimate Interstate 74 are part of a corridor concept known as the 73/74/75 corridor system. While I-75 is complete. the I-74 and I-73 corridors are proposed to enhance the I-75 corridor centered on Ohio and connecting Michigan and the Carolina Coast. North Carolina has been the most aggressive in promoting and constructing the corridors, however other states seem less motivated about designation and construction of the corridor. Additionally the corridor meanders through some rather sparsely populated areas which may negate the need for the corridor. The likelihood of construction of the corridor and the the I-74 gap will likely never be closed.

Ultimate Interstate 101 would be the east coast counterpart to US-101. I-101 would travel along the coast from Savannah Georgia north through Charleston, Norfolk, New Jersey and end at I-95 southwest of NYC. Parts of the route could be tolled due to the need to construct several new water crossings in order to complete the highway. This could be a very important releiver route for I-95 passing east of many major cities along the eastern seaboard.

This would extend I-110 north from I-10 in Pensacola to I-65 in Alabama closing a gap in the current interstate system and providing another new access point to the gulf coast and service a growing metropolitan area that is not currently served by the interstate system to the north.

This is a plan by ALDOT and many major investors and property owners to construct a new multilane interstate corridor around the north side of Birmingham connecting to I-59 at both ends. The route would originate from the I-20/59/459 interchange crossing I-22, I-65 and ending at I-59 northeast of Birmingham. Access to I-22 from I-422 would be via a short connector route known as I-222. This route is not without its controversy and opposition.

This plan would study the idea of creating dedicated limited access tollway corridors from Alabama or Georgia directly to Florida with limited interchanges and service plaza facilities. These toll corridors would be a departure from the normally free interstate corridors and be intended for long distance high speed travel bypassing major cities such as Atlanta. The corridors would also facilitate higher posted speed limits of 80 to 85 MPH for cars and 70-75. Several feeder corridors would also need to be constructed with this project. The potential parent route number would be I-67.

This plan would study the idea of constructing a much needed outer beltway loop around the outskirts of atlanta as a limited access tollway to relieve traffic on the Atlanta freeway system. this corridor would need to be constructed with sensitivities to the environment and preventing urban sprawl to make sure it remains a viable alternative for highspeed bypass.
==[[Ultimate Interstates:Carolina Interstate Madness|Carolina Interstate Madness]]==

North Carolina has been very aggressive with its plans on upgrading and designating new corridors as interstates some of them make sense such as I-295, and others do not such as the planned southern segment of I-87 which is not contiguous with the northern segment running through New York State. the [[Ultimate Interstates:Corridor 73/74|Interstate 73-74 Corridor complex]] also has issues as well. How can the states of North and South Carolina add to their interstate systems responsibly without breaking all the interstate numbering conventions? There may be an answer.
