US-36 Rockville Parkway

This project would convert US-36 from Danville to Indianapolis at I-465 west to a 4 to 6-lane urban express parkway with grade separated limited access intersections including landscaped medians. this would include the removal of two-way turn lanes and the prohibition of left turns along the corridor. This project would be similar to the successful Keystone Parkway project Carmel which has reduced congestion significantly in the area. Intersections would also be converted to double teardrop roundabout intersections to facilitate keeping traffic moving.

INDOT is nearing completion of a project to widen a section of US 36 in the vision area to 6 lanes with center turn lanes from 1/4 mile west of Ronald Reagan Parkway to 1/4 mile east of Raceway Road. This brief section of widening does address some of the operational inefficiencies of the corridor due to the heavy traffic caused by the major commercial node located within this area. However it does not go far enough to address the total throughput of the corridor from I-465 west to the town of Danville. The Rockville Parkway concept will take insights after the successful Keystone Parkway and Hamilton Parkway (SR37) projects that have significantly improved safety and operation along the corridor and also has removed traffic signals.

  • Upgrade US-36 from a surface expressway to a 4 to 6 lane parkway with controlled access interchanges landscaping and parkway features.
  • Construct frontage access along the parkway from High School Road to the CSX railroad undercrossing.
  • Convert the I-465/US-36 interchange to a crossover diamond (DDI) interchange.
  • High School Road - Construct a 2 lane overpass
  • Girls School Road - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange with diagonal access ramps.
  • Transfer Drive - Construct a compact diamond interchange.
  • Country Club Road - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange with diagonal access ramps.
  • Construct one-way frontage roads access along the parkway from Country Club Road to 1/2 mile west of Avon Ave
  • Ronald Reagan Parkway - Construct a slip ramp interchange with an overpass and U-turn ramps.
  • Avon Village Parkway - Construct a slip ramp interchange with a dogbone roundabout overpass.
  • Dan Jones Road (CR 800E) - Construct a slip ramp interchange with an overpass and U-turn ramps.
  • Avon Ave - Construct a slip ramp interchange with a dogbone roundabout overpass.
  • CR 625 E - Construct a standard diamond interchange
  • CR 550/Main Street - Construct Right in - Right out interchange
  • CR 525 - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange.
  • CR 400 - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange.
  • CR 300 - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange.
  • CR 200 - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange.
  • Main Street/Shady Lane - Construct a dogbone roundabout interchange.
