Ultimate Interstates:Southern California
This proposal would renumber several southern california freeways as interstates and involve the upgrade and construction of a few key corridors for future growth and cross border commerce with Mexico.
Imperial Valley
Ultimate Interstate 208
Ultimate Interstate 208 which could also become to be known as the Salton Sea Freeway is an interstate highway corridor that would replace the CA-111 and CA-89 routes in the Imperial Valley and Palm Desert regions of California. The southern end of this freeway would be a short spur route extending south to CA 98 near Calexico. This route could also be routed east to the new border crossing located east of Calexico/Mexicali on SR-7 instead of along SR-111. SR-7 could also have its own interstate designation as I-108 instead. This route would promote continuity with the existing interstate system, provide more routing options for commercial and traffic crossing the border, and provide an interstate link between I-10 and I-8.
Greater Los Angeles
Ultimate Interstate 210
Ultimate Interstate 210 or the Foothill Freeway Extension has recently been renumbered from CA-30 to CA-210 for its entire route. This proposal would redesignate the CA-210 portion as Interstate 210 this completing its connection to its parent interstate. This route is complete. And is currently waiting AASHTO approval to be signed as Interstate 210 on its easter section. Note: This route formerly terminated in Pomona Ca at the I/10/SR57/SR71 interchange.
Ultimate Interstate 310
Ultimate Interstate 310 is an interstate highway corridor formed by renumbering of the SR-134 freeway as Interstate 310 from North Hollywood to Pasadena.
Ultimate Interstate 410
Ultimate Interstate 410 is an interstate highway corridor created by renumbering the the entire length of SR-60 as Interstate 410 from Los Angeles to Beaumont. This is the historic routing of US-60.
Ultimate Interstate 415
Ultimate Interstate 415 is an interstate highway corridor by renumbering the the entire length of SR-91 as interstate 415 from Gardena to Riverside. This is the historic routing of US-91.
Ultimate Interstate 710 Extension
Ultimate Interstate 710 Extension is an interstate highway corridor project intending to close the Pasadena Gap. Plans were considered to use tunneling and other means to complete this segment of unconstructed interstate in order to reduce opposition from the surrounding communities and in the path of the interstates construction. Construction costs and continued opposition of the project seems to have permanently grounded plans for any sort of an extension of the route. As such the route currently terminates at intersection located just north of the I-10 freeway in South Pasadena. Due to the opposition and prohibitive costs of construction and the availability of other freeway routes it likely that this remaining section of I-710 will ever be built.
San Diego
Ultimate Interstate 408
Ultimate Interstate 408 is an interstate highway corridor formed by the renumbering of SR-52 and the southern segment of SR-67 near El Cajon as interstate 410. Connecting to its parent interstate in El Cajon.
Ultimate Interstate 508
Ultimate Interstate 508 is an interstate highway corridor formed by the renumbering of two sections of California state highways. The new route would be created by renumbering SR-54 from Chula Vista to SR-125 and SR-125 from there to Lemon Grove as interstate 508. the route would terminate at I-808 which connects to the parent route in La Mesa, CA.
Ultimate Interstate 808
Ultimate Interstate 808 is an interstate highway corridor formed by the renumbering of SR-94 from downtown San Diego to Lemon Grove and SR-125 from Lemon Grove to SR-52(I-408) as interstate 808
Ultimate Interstate 815
Ultimate Interstate 815 is an interstate highway corridor that would be formed by renumbering the freeway portion of SR-78 as from Oceanside to Escondido as interstate 815 including upgrading the I-5/SR-78 interchange to interstate standards.
Ultimate Interstate 905
Ultimate Interstate 905 is an interstate highway corridor currently signed as CA-905 that connects I-5 with the Otay border crossing in Otay Mesa as well as CA-11 which will connect to a new third commercial border crossing to the east. This redesignated route would provide for continuity with the existing interstate system. and provide an interstate connection for cross border commerce and freight traffic.
Ultimate Interstate 908
Ultimate Interstate 908 if renumbered as an interstate would be the first tolled interstate route in the state of California and would be formed by renumbering the tolled portion of CA-125 south of SR-54 as interstate 908. This would also include constructing the remaining connections of the I-905(CA-905) interchange near Otay Mesa.
